PURPOSE:To obtain an oxygen indicator which has good shelf stability, does not necessitate the presence of water or other compounds, and changes frequently its color reversibly and repeatedly, by vapor-depositing bis(salicylaldehyde) ethylenediiminecobalt or its derivatives onto the surfaces of a supporting substrate. CONSTITUTION:An oxygen indicator is obtained by vacuum depositing bis(salicylaldehyde)ethylenediiminecobalt, represented by the formula, or its derivatives onto the surfaces of a supporting substrate such as plastic film made of polyester, polyethylene, and metallic foil. This indicator does not necessitate the coexistence of moisture or compounds such as alcohol, sodium hydroxide, and changes its color from clear yellow to brown to black in correspondance to the oxygen concentration. This change is reversible, and the indicator can be used repeatedly many times, by putting the discolored one together with a commercial oxygen scavenger agent in a vessel for reduction. |
