The motor has a stator (12) and a rotor (14). The main stator winding consists of a coil for each phase wound around the stator core. Connection terminals are provided for a 3-phase voltage supply and for several capacitors. Each capacitor is connected in series with one main coil for each phase. A 3-phase control winding comprising one control coil for each phase is connected in parallel with the series combination of main coil and capacitor for the same phase. The control coils are likewise wound around the stator core but are wound in the opposite direction of their associated main coils.
