PURPOSE:To improve durability and moisture resistance by having a photoconductive layer and photoreceptive layer having a surface layer constituted of an amorphous material contg. silicon, carbon and hydrogen atoms and incorporating 1-40X10<-3>atom% hydrogen atoms into the surface layer. CONSTITUTION:This photoreceptive member 100 for electrophotography is provided with a photoreceptive layer 102 on a substrate 101. The photoreceptive layer 102 is constituted of the layer consisting of the tight adhesive layer which is constituted of a polycrystalline material contg. at least one of nitrogen atoms, oxygen atoms and carbon atoms and silicon atoms, the photoconductive layer 103 which contains the silicon atoms as the base body and contains at least either of the hydrogen atom and halogen atoms as a constituting element and has photoconductivity and the surface layer 104 which is constituted of the amorphous material contg. the silicon atoms, carbon atoms and hydrogen atoms as the constituting element and is further incorporated therein with 1-40X10<-3>atom% hydrogen atom. The substrate 101 may be conductive or electrically insulating. The durability and moisture resistance are improved by constituting the photoreceptive member in the above-mentioned manner.
