INJECTION MOULDING OF FIBER-REINFORCED GLASS MATRIX COMPOSITE ARTICLES

A mixture of glass powder and chopped high temperature-stable reinforcing fibre (e.g. SiC) is injection moulded to give a glass or glass- ceramic article having strength in three dimensions. The mixture may be injected directly or after forming into a billet. The articles are typically cylindrical (Fig. 3) and may be used as components for gas turbine and internal combustion engines.
