PURPOSE:To enable the control of rolling to a desired plate shape from narrow to broad rolled plates by fitting a sleeve to the cylindrical end part of a roll and expanding or contracting the sleeve with the wedge effect corresponding to the depth of a tapered wedge. CONSTITUTION:A tapered sleeve 6 having the outside diameter slightly smaller than a cylindrical part 2 is wedged and fitted onto the tapered cylindrical roll end part 4 of a backup roll 1. The inside circumferential surface of the step on the right and left sides shown in the figure have gears 7, 7, which gear 8 is fitted and intermeshed with a gear 19 and is keyed 20 thereto. A single split nut 9 with a screw 11 is fitted and keyed 10 to the detaining groove 5 in the boundary part 18 between the end part 4 and a neck part 3 and a cylinder case 12 is fitted and screwed to the screw 11. A piston 14 is fitted into the cylinder chamber 13 in the case 12, and the chamber 13 is closed with a head cover 15, thereby constituting a cylinder 17. The gear 7' at the forward end of the piston 14 engages with the gear 7 with the half pitch turn thereof so that the sleeve 6 and the piston 14 can move integrally in the axial direction. The sleeve 6 is held energized to the right side by a spring 16. If the sleeve 6 is forced to the left side by supplying pressurized oil into the chamber 13, the sleeve 6 is expanded by the wedge effect of the taper of the end part 4. |
