PURPOSE: To obtain an aromatic carbonic acid ester capable of forming a high- quality product essentially free from a residual catalyst component at a high reaction rate in high efficiency while suppressing side reactions by using a titanium compound having low volatility and a specific structure as the catalyst. CONSTITUTION: The objective ester is produced by reacting (A) a dialkyl carbonate (preferably dimethyl carbonate) with (B) a phenolic compound (preferably phenol) in the presence of a catalyst consisting of at least one of (C) a titanium compound of formula I (R<1> is an alkyl, an aryl or an aralkyl; (n) is 1-3) (e.g. pentafluorophenyltitanium trimethoxide) and (D) a titanium compound of formula II [Ar is a (substituted)bivalent aromatic group; R<2> is an alkyl or an arylaralkyl] [e.g. (benzene-1,2dioxy)titanium dimethoxide]. Preferably, the objective ester is produced by carrying out the disproportionation reaction of an aryl alkyl carbonate such as phenyl methyl carbonate in the presence of the above catalyst. |
