PURPOSE:To improve battery performance by recharging at lower electrolyte temperature than electrolyte temperature in completing of charge when a lead- acid battery comprising nonformed plates using antimony-free lead alloy as a current collector is charged. CONSTITUTION:Calcium alloy sheet which is actually antimony-free lead alloy is expanded to form a substrate, and paste is filled on the substrate to form a nonformed plates of a cathode and an anode. After assembling a lead-acid battery using these plates, dilute sulfuric acid is poured and the battery is charged at 18A in a water tank kept at 40 deg.C, and after completion of charge, current is cut off, and charged again at about 30 deg.C which is lower by 10 deg.C than that of the water tank. Therefore, since the volume of oxygen and hydrogen gas absorbed in the plates and separators is decreased, electrolyte penetrates into noncharged portions of fine pores, and these portions are charged. Therefore, battery performance is improved. |
