PURPOSE:To fully utilize the characteristics of fluororesin having extremely small friction coefficient, by forming a predetermined number of oriented narrow grooves in one of the sliding contact surfaces of a seal ring or a follower ring and by making the other one of the sliding contact surfaces from fluororesin material. CONSTITUTION:In one sliding contact surface 6 of a seat ring 3, enclosed fluid is positively introduced into a space between both sliding contact surfaces from the outer periphery of a mechanical seal at first through narrow grooves 8 inclined forward, for surely lubricating them. Further, the enclosed fluid is then led into narrow grooves 7 inclined rearward, from the cross-points of both grooves 7, 8 for discharging the enclosed fluid into an inlet side (the outer peripheral end 6a side of the sliding contact surface 6) without the enclosed fluid reaching the inner peripheral end 6b of the sliding contact surface 6. As a result, the sealability of the mechanical seal may fully exhibit irrespective of the characteristics of the fluororesin material which is used as a main component material of the sliding contact surface 6 and is liable to excessive leakage. |
