A code bar for recognising series-production parts, for example vehicle bodies, on a production line, comprising several codings, each corresponding to one of the numbers 0 to 9, in the form of alternating light and dark strips of different width, consists of a sheet-metal strip out of which the dark strips of the codings are stamped as slots. The sheet-metal strip is preferably bent over twice at the narrow sides for forming mounting flanges, so that the codings are arranged at a distance from the series-production part, and has longitudinal beads in the vicinity of the longitudinal edges.
