A direction-fixing element for castors has a stop plate which is fixed to a rotational bearing head which rotatably holds the wheel fork, on which plate a spring-loaded locking lever is movably mounted. This locking lever connects with an actuation lever and, when locked, detachably engages into a recess of the back of the wheel fork. In order to avoid operation of the actuation lever in opposite directions, the latter is displaceably guided on the stop plate between a locking position and a release position. At the same time, the actuation lever locks in the locking position with a locking nose on the flanged-on plate and can be tilted out of this locking position counter to the force of a restoring spring which then automatically moves the actuation lever back into the release position together with the locking lever.
