The invention relates to a clamping chuck for lathes with a piston (2) axially moveable in the chuck body (1), a plurality of drive jaws and clamping jaws (5 and 8) being associated with said piston. The drive jaws (5) have a toothing (11) that meshes directly, without interposition of intermediate members, with a toothing (10) of the clamping jaws (8). The drive jaws (5) are designed to be moveable in the movement direction (x, Y) of the piston (2) axially towards the rear (Y). In this position the toothings (10 and 11) of the drive and clamping jaws (5 and 8) disengage, so that the clamping jaws (8) can be withdrawn radially outwards and/or displaced. <IMAGE>
