A fan (11) and an evaporator (10) are arranged in a lower space (6), delimited in an airtight fashion by wall parts (7), of a housing (1) of the refrigerating unit. The floor surface of the lower space (6) is provided in each opposite edge region with an opening (8,9) for the entry or exit of hot air to be cooled. A compressor (16) for a refrigerant, a condenser (17), and a fan (18) for cooling the condenser (17) with ambient air are arranged in an upper housing space (15). Narrow sides (2) of the housing (1) are inclined inwards in an upper part (3) and are each provided with an opening (4,5) for the entry or exit of the ambient air conveyed by the fan (18). The refrigerating unit is designed to be mounted on the top, provided with cut-outs corresponding to the floor openings (8,9), of a switch cabinet in order to cool the air enclosed in the switch cabinet. The large cross section of the cabinet air flow into the lower space (6) and the small flow distance, and also the unhindered guidance of ambient air, afforded by the inclined, narrow-side housing openings (4,5), make possible a high cooling performance, even at a high ambient temperature. <IMAGE>
