Method and device for sorting photographic originals into different subject groups

Processes are known for sorting photographic originals into different subject groups which are to be copied using different density corrections which determine a deviation of quantity of copying light from a quantity of copying light which leads to an average grey density of the copy. This sorting is performed in accordance with photoelectrically determined density values of specific regions of the originals. In order to be able to carry out this sorting irrespective of the position of the original relative to the scanning direction, the measured values of the originals (1) are ordered in a co-ordinate system whose abscissa forms the relative blue density DB rel of the original, and the ordinate forms the relative maximum density DM rel of the central field (1a) of the same original. It is possible in this co-ordinate system to distinguish regions for originals which require strong positive, negative or only slight density corrections. <IMAGE>
