The surface temperature is determined by a differential thermocouple by using the thermal e.m.f. produced by the temperature difference to control a heating fan so that the generated gas flow brings the surroundings of the reference thermocouple point to a temperature such that the temperature difference vanishes. In order to be able to carry out a temperature measurement in a contactless fashion in conjunction with response times that are as short as possible, the means for transmitting the temperature are provided as a stream of gas which flows through the measurement space over the surface of the solid body and whose temperature is measured at the inlet and outlet of the measurement space.
