In a head amplifier for a video recorder, the head inductance (5) is tuned, during recording, to a series resonance frequency in the upper range of the frequency spectrum of the recorded carrier by means of a capacitor (4) located in the signal path. The series resonance cancels the record current in the upper frequency range. The capacitance decreases the record current in the lower frequency range. This makes it possible to achieve a constant record current over the entire frequency spectrum, and thus a better signal/noise ratio. <IMAGE>
