A throughflow dryer for printed materials is concerned, especially for screen-printed sheets (6) which are successively fed, spaced apart, to a conveyor belt (7) set in motion by a drive motor (10) and running through the dryer housing (1,2). The printed sheets (6) were hitherto generally transported through the dryer (1,2) on a continuously circulating conveyor belt (7). In contrast to this, according to the invention the conveyor belt (7) is moved forwards discontinuously by the drive motor (10), in step with the printed sheets (6) reaching the dryer inlet (3), in each case by a distance corresponding at least to approxiamtely the length measurement of the printed sheet (6) concerned. The switch pulses to start and stop the conveyor belt (7) can, for example, be emitted by means of a photocell (13) responding to the front edge or rear edge of a printed sheet (6) reaching the dryer inlet (3). The conveyor belt (7) is thus only advanced when a newly arriving printed sheet (6) has to be transported. The capacity of the dryer is better utilised as a result. <IMAGE>
