摘要 <p>A shaped article is claimed comprising a coherent matrix formed of particles (A) and (B), or of coherent structures of these, in a densely packed arrangement where particles (A), of size 5-500 nm, are homogeneously distributed in the voids of particles (B) which are of size 0.5-100 microns and are at least one order of magnitude larger than (A). Embedded in the matrix are particles (C) of a material having higher strength than ordinary sand or stone and high hardness and of size 0.1-100 mm, and opt. additional particles (D) which have at least one dimension which is at least one order of magnitude higher than (A). The claims also cover various methods of producing the article, the compsns. of starting materials, uses of the article, and certain specific articles, including some contg. plastics, which may be cured in situ, some which are impregnated with liq. metal and some which are coated with a compsn. of particles (A), (B) and (D). The article is useful as (a) e.g. in situ cast oil well walls, duct fillings, fissure fillings, sheets, thin-walled planar or corrugated panels and tiles, and (b) load-bearing member in structural engineering e.g. a beam, a shell or a column, esp. as pre-stressed concrete. The articles have extremely high durability and high density and, compared with prior art DSP systems, even higher strength and rigidity due to the inclusion of particles (c).</p>
