A process is described for the production of an alloy material in the form of thin sheets or foils, fine wires etc., in which a molten alloy is pressed out of a holding vessel for the molten alloy, through a nozzle, and against a cooling body which rotates or moves at high speed. The molten alloy is quenched by contact with the surface of the cooling body. The internal pressure of the vessel holding the molten alloy is reduced to a predetermined value below the ambient pressure at the moment of holding the molten alloy, and the molten alloy is expelled through the nozzle by using an expulsion pressure. The latter is higher than the holding pressure. By this means, trickling of the alloy melt out through the nozzle is prevented when no expulsion is taking place.
