For machining the exposed surfaces of concrete slabs, a process is proposed in which the slabs, lying on their exposed surface, are fed to the stock-removing tool and the stock-removal is carried out from below. Furthermore, a device for carrying out the process is described. It is advantageous that, even with different slab thicknesses, a uniform stock removal on the exposed side takes place, so that separate calibration devices are superfluous, without the stock-removal being too intense in individual regions in the case of non-uniform slab thickness.
