The solar heat storage unit comprises a closed container through which a coiled tube for a heat supply medium and a coiled tube for a heat dissipating medium passes. Respective inlet and outlet connections project through an end cover. The container is filled with a substance, eg. a salt, with a melting point between 50 and 80 deg. centrigrade. Very thin elements of good heat conducting material, e.g. fine copper gauze, fills the internal space and is in heat-conducting contact, pref. by welding, at least with the walls of the dissipating tube but pref. with both tubes.
