PURPOSE:To make the home positions of an optional pitch scale and a reference pitch scale coincident with each other, by providing specific conditions among the reference pitch scale, an optional mark, and a sensor. CONSTITUTION:This automatic original feeder is equipped with the reference pitch scale 19 which has reference marks at a pitch smaller than a line interval of a list original, read sensors S1 and S2 for the reference marks, sensors 68 and 70 arranged so that their sensor outputs are out of phase by 90 degree with each other, optional pitch scales 71-73 which have optional marks are pitch corresponding to the line intervals of the list original, and a read sensor S3 for the optional marks. When the scales 71-73 are used, their home positions are coincident with that of the scale 19. For this purpose, L10=L8-L9-L6-P3, where L8 is the length of the scale 19, P3 and L10 are the pitch and length of each optional mark, and L9 is the length obtained by multiplying the number of fed optional marks by the pitch while L6 is the distance between the sensors S1 and S2. |
