PURPOSE:To provide a titled dummy bar device which permits the quick insertion of a dummy bar into a mold after the end of charging and the reduction in the overall length of a casting installation, by constituting said device in such a way that a short-sized dummy bar body can be inserted into the mold from above prior to starting of the charging. CONSTITUTION:A dummy bar body 3 is first inserted from above a mold 2 into the mold 2 prior to starting of charging in the stage of drawing the solidified ingot in the mold 2. A turning arm 5 is then turned clockwise by a driving device 6 and a driving source 7 is operated to clamp the body 3 securely between the bottom end part of an arm 9 and the bottom end part of the arm 5. The device 6 is operated reverse from the above upon starting of the charging to turn the arm 5 counterclockwise, thereby drawing the ingot from the mold 2. When the body 3 arrives at drawing rolls 4, the source 7 is operated reverse from the above-mentioned case to unclamp the body between the bottom end part of the arm 5 and the bottom end part of the arm 9. The succeeding drawing is continued with the rolls 4 and the body 3 is disconnected from the ingot and is stored in a suitable place. |
