PURPOSE:To stir effectively molten steel and to improve the life of a casting mold, by using a copper beryllium alloy having low electrical conductivity and high mechanical strength as a blank material. CONSTITUTION:A titled casting mold for electromagnetic stirring type continuous casting consists of a beryllium copper alloy which is of the compsn. consisting of 0.1-4.0wt% beryllium and the balance substantially copper and has low electrical conductivity and high mechanical strength. Since the electrical conductivity of the beryllium copper alloy is <=70% IACS which is considerably lower as compared to pure copper, the attenuation quantity in absorption of the electromagnetic wave proportional to the square root of the electromagnetic wave is correspondingly smaller. However, the heat conductivity is inferior to pure copper; therefore, the casting mold itself is required to be made thinner in terms of heat removability. Since the beryllium copper alloy is superior in both tensile strength and softening point by heating to pure copper, the casting mold having substantial yield strength is obtained even if the mold is made thinner. |
