The structure for raising bees has sets of chambers, each holding a queen bee, designed so that one set of bees is prevented from mixing with other sets during swarming to protect the bees from disease. Selected chambers house plastics honeycombs having larger cells to encourage a stronger growth by the bees so that they have greater disease resistance. The size of the special cells is about 5 percent greater than the other cells. The chambers are arranged in rows, and the chambers for the special cells occurr in a selected order, e.g. every second or fifth chamber. Drones are raised in plastics honeycombs which have a cell diameter of between 6.8 and 7 mm. The walls of these cells are 0.75 the height of natural cells.
|
