The converters (46, 48) includes a piezo-electric element (10) with a carrier (2), electrodes (4) on the upper side (3) of the carrier, and a layer (8) of ferro-electric liquid crystal material which is formed from an oriented polymer or one, at least partially (25) oriented elastomer. A movable part (28) is arranged above the upper side (12) of the liquid crystal material layer. The movable part is equipped with a macroscopic contour (36) at its underside (38) facing the layer, for an indirect or direct action with a corresponding contour (52) at the upper side of the layer.In the electro-mechanical converter, the corresponding contour is formed through a respective voltage supply at the electrodes, and is thereby movable parallel to the corresponding contour of the movable part, in a direction of movement. In the mechano-electrical converter, a forced shift of the contour caused by a movement of the movable part, causes corresponding voltages at the electrodes.
