Horizontal centrifuge for extracting oil from slurry, e.g., from olive processing - which provides optimum extraction from husks and improved separation of oil and water by use of baffles and output nozzles

The horizontal centrifuge has a drum (3) with an inlet head (16) closing the upstream side and an outlet head (11) for the olive husks closing the downstream end. A screw conveyor (5) on a hollow shaft (14) is rotatably mounted in a coaxial position inside the drum. Means are provided for independently rotating both the drum and the hollow shaft. A stationary feed tube (6) for the oily slurry passes through the inlet head and ends inside the hollow shaft which has apertures for passing the slurry. There is an olive husk discharge outlet (10) and a first baffle plate (9) which is integral with the shaft and prevents oil from being discharged with the husks. Water discharge nozzles (1) are provided in the inlet head and oil outlet nozzles (12, 15). In order to improve the oil extraction capacity from the slurry a long oil column is formed between the first baffle plate and a second baffle plate (2) which is immediately downstream of the inlet head. The two sets of radial adjustable oil outlet nozzles have the first set downstream of the feed tube and the second immediately downstream of the second baffle plate. The centrifuge also has an element (7) arranged between the feed tube and the first nozzle set in order to move the muds away from the extraction apertures of the nozzles.
