PURPOSE:To profile control accurately a welding torch along a groove line, by detecting the distance between the electrode and groove wall under a condition where the arc column is deflected toward the groove wall and correcting the osillating amplitude. CONSTITUTION:In automatic TIG welding, a magnetic field in the direction of forward-backward moving axis is applied to an arc pillar 18 by exciting magnetic coils 14 and 15 installed in a welding torch section 23. The polarity of magnetic poles 16 (17) extended downward from the iron core 13 of the electromagnetic coils 14 and 15 with an electrode 33 in between is controlled and the arc pillar 18 is deflected toward groove walls 44a and 44b. The welding torch section 23 is oscillated rightward and leftward and the distance between the leftmost and rightmost positions of the torch 23 and groove walls is measured by means of an arc voltage, etc. The rightward and leftward oscillation amplitude is corrected so that the distances become specified values, and the welding torch 23 is made to follow the groove line. |
