PRODUCTION OF ZN-PLATED STEEL WIRE HAVING EXCELLENT MECHANICAL PROPERTY

PURPOSE:To produce a Zn-plated steel wire having an excellent mechanical property by water-cooling the steel wire right after passing the same through a galvanizing bath. CONSTITUTION:A hot-rolled wire rod is subjected to lead patenting then to pickling and lubricating followed by drawing. The drawn wire is subjected to a pretreatment for plating and galvanizing. The growth of the Fe-Zn alloy layer in the plating layer after the plating is suppressed forcibly and the crystal in the plating layer is refined whereby the twisting characteristic and workability of the Zn-plated steel wire are improved effectively by water-cooling the steel wire within five seconds after passing through the galvanizing bath. At the same time, the progression of the precipitation aging of the steel wire after the plating is retarded and the deterioration in the mechanical property is prevented. The Zn-plated steel wire which has the excellent mechanical property and is suited for use as a steel wire of a steel cored aluminum stranded wire for transmission of electricity and a ground wire for bridges is obtained by the above-mentioned method.
