PURPOSE:To provide a scintillation detector which has high emission efficiency and low afterglow, prepared by hot (isotactic) pressing of a specified luminescent substance. CONSTITUTION:One or more fluorescent substances selected from among Gd2O2S: Pr (i.e. Gd2O2S doped with Pr.), Gd2O2S:(Tb, Pr), Y3Al5O12Ge, (Y,G)O2S: Pr, and (Y,G)O2S:(Tb,Pr), is formed into block by hot (isotactic) pressing at 1,000- 2,000 deg.C under pressure of 10-10,000kg/cm<2> in an inert gas atmosphere (e.g. helium). The block is then machined into a given shape to produce a scintillation detector with consistent performance. The detector is suitable for computer tomography, etc.
