RADIATION SIGNAL PROCESSING SYSTEM WITH ENERGY-WINDOW SELECTOR

An improved method and apparatus for energy window selection in a radiation signal processing system comprises flooding the camera with a substantially uniform radiation; determining the apparent spatial position and energy level of detected radiation events; determining corrected spatial positions of the detected radiation events; determining the energy level distribution of the detected radiation events in each of a plurality of uniform corrected spatial elements; and determining an energy level acceptance window in each distribution such that the number of events accepted in each element is substantially the same. A preferred embodiment includes obtaining energy level histograms corresponding to corrected spatial elements and determining a standard count of radiation events to be accepted by each corrected spatial element in response to a flood image. The energy window of each corrected spatial element is then adapted to cause each to accept the standard count of radiation events in response to the flood image whereby greater uniformity of image may be accomplished in the imaging process. The window values are stored as a function of apparent position.
