<p>The socket is of the type employing a U-shaped folded metal strip. The joints (28,29) formed by the folding constitute a contact of a male plug in the form of a pin (4). The design allows the pre-formed U-shaped strip to by made with a substantial separation between the jaws, which facilitates coating and cleaning processes. The strip is housed in a plastics box with a rectangular cross-section. It is introduced into the wider end of the box and is forced into the narrower lower section. The arms (22,23) of U-shaped strip are angled and bow outwards and the action to move together, forcing the jaws into contact with one another. Further movement of the strip into the housing causes the ends of the strip to locate on a ridged end-stops (3) fixed to each side of the cavity.</p> |
