In a connecting arrangement constructed as a hermaphroditic plug-in connector (10), the optical fibres (20), e.g. of a multifibre optical cable (16), which end in terminal ferrules (18) mounted in an axially displaceable fashion, are laid in a terminal chamber (21) around a spindle (56) inserted into the terminal chamber (21) in such a way that during coupling of the plug-in connector (10) the fibres (20) can give way in a manner corresponding to the yielding terminal ferrules (18). In order to avoid small bending radii, which produce mechanical stresses in the fibre (20) and cause radiation losses during transmission of lightwaves, the fibres (20) are laid in loops according to the pattern of an "8", the spindle (56) penetrating both loops. The spindle (56) consists of a front yoke (58) having radial slits (64) for supporting one terminal-ferrule arrangement (30) each, as well as of a rear holder (60) which is connected to the yoke (58) via two rods arranged at a distance from one another. The holder (60) has a central opening (68) through which the optical fibres (20) enter the terminal chamber (21) of the connecting arrangement. <IMAGE>
