<p>The device measures the displacement of a moving body such as a machine tool-holder w.r.t. a fixed reference point through use of a cable acted on by the moving body at the moment of its displacement. The cable (1) is wound on a cylindrical drum (2) which rotates about an axis (3) orthogonal to the cable. The free end of the cable (4) is fixed by an anchoring hook (5) to the moving body. The drum wall has threads (6) so that the cable is wound in regular coils. The drum is mounted on a shaft (8) which turns in square support bearings (9) and has an elastic return mechanism such as a spring (10) which constantly resets the drum to its 'wound-cable' position. A pulse generator (11) translates the angular displacement of the drum into electrical pulses which are transmitted to a counter (12) with electronic light display (13), inverse counting (14) and a zero-reset button (15). In an alternative realisation the device has a greater measuring capacity but is less autonomous.</p> |
