A carriage is movable in front of a printing platen, and supports a daisy wheel with typing arms, with a hammer which strikes against the selected arm for printing. The electronic control circuit regulates the daisy wheel and printing hammer movement, and the daisy wheel has at least one typing arm, the type of which has a centre of gravity for its printing area displaced relatively to the geometrical centre line of the type. The type is displaceable laterally on the arm, so that its centre of gravity is located near to or on the centre line of the arm. The control circuit works with a memory, in which the requisite lateral displacement is stored, and contains in connection with the choice of type for printing process the required lateral displacement, guiding the wheel and/or carriage movement to compensate the lateral movement.
