The diagrammatically illustrated elevator for loading trucks has two endless conveying chains (6), guided in parallel next to one another via lower and upper deflecting wheels (7, 8) above a material pick-up device (24) and having conveying rakes (10) which are pivotably mounted thereon and connect the two conveying chains (6) and which are each rigidly connected to a control arm (13) which is guided along a curved path (15) by means of a control roller (14) and leads in the direction of movement and which, in the region of the upper deflecting wheels (8), can be changed over first to trail and then to lead again by means of deflection aids. For a quiet running of the elevator and for a reduction in the wear on the control rollers (14), the control path (15) and the pivoting connection of the conveying rakes (10) on the conveying chains (6), there is fastened to the drive shaft (9) of the upper deflecting wheels (8) a pawl (17) which is made of elastic plastic and which, at the start of the rotational movement of the conveying rakes (10) about the upper deflecting wheels (8), comes into engagement with a catch (18) on the conveying rakes (10) and, immediately after the end of the rotational movement, comes out of engagement and, while it is in its engagement position, prevents the conveying rakes (10) on the conveying chains (6) from pivoting with the effect of bringing the control arm (13) into a leading position. <IMAGE>
