The main cause of chronic illness in the striking arm of tennis players is not the faulty technique of the player, but is to be found in the manner of conventional stringing. This is characterised in that all the strings are of different length and each individual string is fixedly anchored, and this can lead to vibrations in accordance with the laws of vibration and to abrupt fluctuations in tension which act unphysiologically on the striking arm and prepare the way for illness or initiate irreparable damage in the case of continuing effect. The solution is seen in departing from the fixed individual strings, using a single string and the stringing net thus being able to vibrate as a whole, to balance differences in tension immediately, to extend the vibration path or waves and to keep the tension even over the entire net, that is to say to allow an isotonic mode of operation analogously to the working muscle fibre. This is guaranteed technically by the manner of suspension of the net on rings, guiding via a ball joint and damping of the vibrations or filtration of the transverse waves by the interposition of a liquid core.
