In a balance with a load receiver and with a measuring spring which is coupled mechanically to this load receiver and of which the deflection in the vertical direction is proportional to the load, there is at least one torsionally resiliently mounted lever (7) which is not connected mechanically to the load receiver (2) and which carries a coil (13) projecting into the air gap of a permanent-magnet system (10). There is, moreover, a position indicator (11) which senses the position of the lever (7) relative to the load receiver (2) in the vertical direction in a reactionless manner, this position indicator (11) controlling the current through the coil (13) in such a way that the position of the lever (7) relative to the load receiver (2) remains as unchanged as possible and the current through the coil (13) is a measure of the applied load. <IMAGE>
