In a firing aid for firing flatware parts such as plates, cake plates or the like, consisting of a carrier surface which takes up the base of the flatware part to be fired and which rises obliquely upwards underneath the rim of the flatware part to be placed thereon and, at its edge, is bent downwards to form a base part of preferably reinforced design, the carrier surface is lowered downwards in the region located within the base of the flatware part to be placed thereon, for the purpose of avoiding stresses and cracks in the carrier surface or at the level of the crank due to the loading with the plate standing on the carrier surface and, in conjunction with this, due to the heat accumulation below the bases of the plate during firing of the flatware parts in the kiln. The lowered region is then expediently located at the level of a plane in the middle between the plane of the carrier surface and the standing plane, defined by the base ends, of the firing aid. The transition zone between the lowered region and the carrier surface can extend obliquely outwards and upwards.
