PURPOSE:To provide a gear oil compsn. which is excellent in abrasion resistance and oxidation stability even under the conditions of high-temp. operation as well as in low-temp. flowability and which comprises a particular polyoxyalkylene glycol as a base oil. CONSTITUTION:At least one 2-4C alkylene oxide is polymerized at a temp. of 100-150 deg.C under a pressure of 1-10 atm in the presence of a metal alcoholate as a catalyst, using water or an alcohol as a polymerization initiator, thereby obtaining a ring-opening (co)polymer comprising polyalkylene glycol having an average MW of 800-2,300 and a viscosity at 100 deg.C of 5-20mm<2>/s. Then polyalkylene glycol as a base oil is blended with 3-15wt% additive consisting of 0.3-5wt% antioxidant, 0.3-13wt% extreme-pressure agent, 0.01-3wt% metal inactivator, 0.05-2wt% rust preventive, 0.01-3wt% lubrication improver and 0.0005-0.02wt% antifoaming agent. |
