In such choppers which have a feed container with at least one rotating blade device at the lower end thereof, there is the danger of the cutting process being impaired by rotation in the feed container of the material to be comminuted. A guide in the forwarding direction towards the blade device for the material to be comminuted is therefore to be placed in the feed container just above the blade device, to oppose the formation of a vortex of the material to be comminuted in the feed container. At least one guide rib projecting into the interior of the container is arranged for this purpose on the inner wall of the container, and extends essentially in the forwarding direction of the material to be chopped in the container.
