A toothed rack steering system for motor vehicles is described in which the track rods are connected off-centre, that is to say not in the central axis of the toothed rack. A track rod carrier which is supported via an intermediate element on the vehicle body or on a component fixed to the vehicle is located between the toothed rack and the track rods.
