The invention relates to an improved gas generator having a multiplicity of electrolytic cells which have current flowing through them in series and electrolyte in parallel. The occurrence of leakage currents in the gas generator is suppressed and it can be produced at low cost with laminally arranged plates, and is efficient and readily transportable.
