Hydraulic antilock brake system for vehicles

The antilock brake system permits the repeated operation of a wheel brake (1) of a vehicle in a rapid first stage, which is followed by a slower second stage. This is achieved by a control piston arrangement (6) with a first piston (7) and a second piston (8) of larger effective surface than that of the first piston (7). The two pistons (7 and 8) move together as one unit during the second stage, but in the first stage the first piston (7) moves relative to the second piston (8). The movement of the pistons (7 and 8) is determined in the second stage by the difference between the effective surfaces of the two pistons (7 and 8) and by the magnitude of a throttle opening (27) which damps the return movement of the piston arrangement (6). <IMAGE>
