PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time taken to drive a focus lens system to a focusing position by changing the position of a focus lens for starting the sampling of an AF evaluated value in accordance with the position of a zoom lens. SOLUTION: An image preprocessor(IPP) 10, a discrete cosine transformer(DCT) 108 and a coder 109 being digital signal processing parts perform various kinds of processing and data processing for correction and image compression/ elongation concerning inputted digital image data by separating color difference and luminance. ACPU 121 controls image pickup operation, automatic exposure(AE) operation, automatic white balance(AWB) adjusting operation and AF operation. The position of the focus lens 101a for starting the sampling of the AF evaluated value is changed in accordance with the position of a zoom lens system. Thus, the efficient focusing operation of the lens 101a suitable for a variable power position is executed. |
