PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely measure the bearing clearance extending in the radial direction of a radial ball bearing by detecting the vibration of an inner ring or an outer ring in the excited state of the radial ball bearing having a plurality of balls arranged between an inner ring raceway and an outer ring raceway, to which balls a prescribed pre-load is imparted, and performing an operation. SOLUTION: A radial ball bearing 1 has a plurality of balls 6 arranged between an inner ring raceway 3 provided on the circumferential surface of an inner ring 2 and an outer ring raceway 5 provided on the inside surface of an outer ring 4, and a prescribed pre-load is imparted to the balls 6 by a load based on the weight of the outer ring 4. The vibration of the outer ring 4 is detected by a vibration detector 11 while exciting the ball bearing 1 by a shaker 10, whereby the resonance frequency fn of the ball bearing 1 is determined. Since the axial rigidity Ka, resonance frequency Fn and floacting mass (m) of the ball bearing 1 have the relation of fn=(Ka/m)<1/2> /2π, the radial bearing clearance can be easily and quickly provided on the basis of the resonance frequency fn detected by the vibration detector 11.
