<p>The invention includes methods and systems to improve the signal diversity between a repeater (105) and a base station (110) in a wireless communication system. A communications device (180) transmits a wireless signal (102). The repeater receives two versions of the wireless signal (102) using a first receiver system (312) and a second receiver (314) system. The repeater (105) transmits two versions of the wireless signal (102) that correspond to the two received versions. The repeater transmits the two versions with different signal polarizations so they can be isolated from one another at the base station (110). The base station receives the two versions from the repeater and isolates each version based on the difference in polarization. The base station (110) processes the two diverse versions (102) to produce a high-quality signal. The use of different polarizations to provide diverse signals between the repeater (105) and the base station (110) lowers signal power requirements and increases the capacity of CDMA systems.</p> |
