The invention relates to a striking cap, made of plastic or metal, for strengthening tool handles made of wood. On the side with which it bears against the handle, it has a centric, frustoconical projection exhibiting a bore which narrows first in the form of a funnel and then widens again, and also a plurality of axial slots. Seated on the circumferential surface of the frustoconical projection are protuberances - or rib-shaped elevations. The striking cap is inserted with this projection into a hole in the wooden handle corresponding to the diameter. When pressing the handle-end of the tool into the hole in the cap, the segments of the projection are spread open and the protuberances - or rib-shaped elevations - are pressed into the wood, with the result that a secure fastening of the cap in the handle body is obtained.
