The supply of actuating fluid from a fluid source (19) to a vehicle brake (23) through a brake line is controlled by means of a modulator (2) as a function of slip signals from a slip measuring sensor (6). The modulator (2) has a pressure discharge valve (4) in order to discharge fluid rapidly from the brake line in the presence of a slip signal. The pressure discharge valve (4) can be moved against the loading by a spring arrangement between a feed position, in which the fluid source (19) is connected to the brake (23), an interruption intermediate position, in which the fluid source (19) is separated from the brake (23) and a shut-off and discharge position, in which the connection between the fluid source (19) and the brake (23) is interrupted and pressure is released from the brake to an expansion chamber (48). The compression springs of the spring arrangement are so arranged that the pressure discharge valve (4) can move from the feed position into the interruption intermediate position only when a slip signal does not exceed a predetermined value and into the shut-off and discharge position only as a function of a slip signal which exceeds the predetermined value. <IMAGE>
