Oil/gas compression spring for working chairs, in particular for office chairs, for the setting, by means of locking, and at the same time springing of the seat area and backrest. What is novel is that a normal, commercially available gas compression spring lockable from the outside by means of a lever is mounted with the outside of its housing longitudinally displaceable, with the interposition of a seal, in the end face of a further housing surrounding the gas compression spring, through the other end face of which the free end of the piston rod of the gas compression spring is guided, and that the interspace between the gas compression spring and the further housing is filled with gas, for example air, which experiences a pressure increase on compression of the gas compression spring as a result of its further penetration into this interspace. A special additional feature is that, besides the compressible gas, oil is also additionally provided in this interspace.
