The device (10) has a power-operated mount (18) which can be pivoted about a horizonal shaft (30) and which holds the container (12) during emptying. A supporting projection (36) which grips a flange of the container from below is provided on the mount, and mounting elements (40) which are each tensioned by means of a spring (52) connected to the mount, with pretensioning towards the top of a container (12) held on the supporting projection (36), are rotatably mounted on the horizontal shaft (30) by the side of the mount. In the container insertion and removal position, the mounting elements (40) are pretensioned by means of a stop (46), against the pretensioning of the springs (52), into a position in which the supporting projection (36) is released for depositing and/or removing the container (12). <IMAGE>
